Sad Anniversary of an abandoned soldier's despair

Reported by Chrish - January 17, 2007 -

One year ago I posted about the suicide of SPC Douglas Barber, an Iraq war vet suffering from PTSD. Barber had posted an essay at Scoop that read in part

"Talk show hosts like Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh and so many others act like they know all about war; then they refuse to give any credence to soldiers like me who have been to war and seen the brutality of war. "

For all our vets and anti-war readers, and for those who want to try to get inside the anti-war mind, please read and listen to these recently recovered interviews with SPC Barber.

One of the main premises of the media reform movement is that everyone should have a voice, everyone should get to tell their story. Keep this in mind when you are asked again (and you will be!) to help keep the Internet free and accessible. Barber couldn't get his story out through corporate media channels so it is up to us to spread it for him. It's the least we can do.
