Fox Host Applauds GOP Presidential Candidate -- On Air

Reported by Judy - January 16, 2007 -

A co-host of "Fox and Friends" could not hide his enthusiasm for a Republican presidential hopeful, bursting into applause when the man's announcement of an exploratory commitee for the 2008 race was made. With video.

Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colorado, announced on "Fox and Friends" Tuesday (January 16, 2007) that he is forming an exploratory committee to seek the GOP 2008 presidential nomination.

Tancredo appeared in two back-to-back segments on "Fox and Friends" where he touted his "common sense agenda," which was mostly an attack on immigrants, legal or not. Attacks on immigrants are a staple of "Fox and Friends" content.

"Thanks for picking our venue," fawned co-host Brian Kilmeade.

Co-host Steve Doocy also helpfully reminded Tancredo of the need to raise money, prompting Tancredo to give out his web-page address.

That wasn't the end, however. Co-host Gretchen Carlson led the news update with Tancredo's announcement just a minute later. And then Doocy claimed to have received an email from a viewer who said he had just set Tancredo a $100 donation.

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, also announced that he was forming an exploratory committee for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. Obama's announcement got no mention on "Fox and Friends."

The differing treatments came after "Fox and Friends" featured Bill O'Reilly to repeat his attacks on NBC as a "left-leaning" network and held itself up as "fair and balanced." "This is the only place you can get it fair and balanced," said Doocy. "We try and other places don't," responded O'Reilly.

"Fox and Friends" demonstrated how hard they try to be fair and balanced a few minutes later, when they said goodbye to Tancredo. The camera was not on the co-hosts, but my money says it was Kilmeade doing the clapping. I'm pretty sure he's smart enough to be able to make noise with his hands.
