Breaking News: Sen. Tim Johnson Recovering from Surgery: Condition Critical but Stable

Reported by Marie Therese - December 14, 2006 -

Sen. Tim Johnson (D-SD) went into surgery early this morning to remove a clot caused by a congenital arteriovenous malformation. The speech difficulties he experienced yesterday were caused by bleeding into his brain. The seepage occured in the left temporal lobe and affected his speech centers. George Washington University hospital reports that Sen. Johnson's condition is critical but stable. The operation to stop the hemorrhage was a success and completed without complications. Sen. Johnson's long-term prognosis is unclear at this point. News reports have indicated that Tim Johnson is respected on both sides of the political aisle. We want to wish him a complete and speedy recovery.
