In a Fit of Concern About Free Speech, Neil Cavuto Defends Michael "Kramer" Richards

Reported by Melanie - November 28, 2006 -

The two African-American men who were the brunt of Michael "Kramer" Richards' appalling and racist eruption last week have hired attorney Gloria Allred to represent them in a suit against Richards. Allred, who was a guest today (November 28, 2006) on Fox's "business news" program, Your World w/Neil Cavuto, said her clients weren't as interested in monetary compensation as they are in a genuine apology.

At the end of the interview, Cavuto wondered:

Do you see that, anyone -- we don't have much time Gloria -- but if someone says that these guys get money, whatever, that it sends a chill through our free speech that you have to be very, very careful, even as a comic, doing a lousy presentation in front of a crowd?

Fortunately there was enough time for Allred to explain to Cavuto that there is a difference between free speech and hate speech but what struck me was that Cavuto would defend the "free speech" rights of a bigoted racist, but he has never defended the right to free speech of say, anti-war activists. Interesting priorities.
