FOX gets Dixie Chicked

Reported by Chrish - November 18, 2006 -

A Taos NM video-store owner, outraged by FOX's planned airing of an interview with acquitted murderer OJ Simpson, has his own plans to destroy several hundred DVDs of popular FOX programs such as "24" and "The Simpsons" in protest. Mondo Video owner Marc Campbell said of the book being published by News Corp. holding ReganBooks "It's a how-to book on killing your wife, and as my wife said, with domestic violence being rampant, I had to make a statement."

Campbell had originally planned to burn the DVDs in a large trash barrel in the parking lot of his store but as word got out about the protest he received a visit from the local police and fire departments, who told him he could not burn the DVDs without suffering fines and/or jail time. The Taos News reports he said

“They told me that it would be illegal for me to burn any non agricultural-related products,” he said. “I told them Fox’s products are s***, but I guess it didn’t qualify.”

The outspoken store owner said while burning is no longer an option, he is planning "something special" to ensure that his message is heard.

The Albuquerque Journal reported that

Campbell said he has e-mailed Keifer Sutherland, the star and producer of "24"; actor Hugh Laurie, the star of "House"; and Matt Groening, the creator of "The Simpsons," and asked them to protest Fox's plans. "These men have made millions for Fox, they are supposed to be hip, liberal and men of conscience and I hope they come forward and speak against this," Campbell said.

FOX News' Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly participated in the public lynching of the Dixie Chicks after Natalie Maines remark about being ashamed that Bush is from her home-state of Texas. In an interview included in the new (and fabulous) documentary "Shut Up and Sing" one of the women (Marty?) said that "getting Dixie Chicked" was now a verb. It would be fine karma to see FOX get theirs over their profiteering from a remorseless, immoral skank like OJ Simpson.
