Firm affiliated with FOX military analyst Bill Cowan gets 6.2 million dollar contract with US Military

Reported by Chrish - September 27, 2006 -

Editor and Publisher is reporting that The Lincoln Group out of Washington DC has received another multi-million dollar contract to "monitor a number of English and Arabic media outlets and produce public relations-type products such as talking points or speeches for U.S. forces in Iraq..." If you'll recall, the firm gained notoriety last November when it was reported that they had been retained to help plant propaganda in Iraqi newspapers.

That was barely covered on FOX, with the most glaring omission being the relationship between FOX military analyst Bill Cowan and the Lincoln Group - he is an "advisor" and he is the founder/chairman of WVC3, a company which "does business with" the Lincoln Group. What a complex web! Note that the official FOXNews.com bio of Cowan makes no mention of his affiliation with Lincoln Group.

E&P writes

"The idea is to use the information to "build support" in Iraqi, Arabic, international and U.S. audiences for what the military describes as its goals in Iraq, such as destroying the insurgency and helping Iraqis build a democracy, according to contract documents."

M-W.com writes

2 : the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person
3 : ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause or to damage an opposing cause; also : a public action having such an effect

The contract was awarded through "standard contracting process". How very convenient that so many friends of the W administration - fotwa - started these companies in 2002-2003 and are savvy enough to compete for and win all these contracts. Amazing.

And if you hadn't already guessed, the definition above is for "propaganda".
