Dick Durbin Appears on Fox and Makes Democrats Look Like Idiots

Reported by Melanie - September 12, 2006 -

Dick Durbin (D-IL) was a guest today (September 12, 2006) on Your World w/Cavuto and I have no doubt that Democrats who saw him were screaming at their television sets by the time the segment was over. He was awful!

Durbin appeared to explain why "some Democrats" are upset that George Bush mentioned Iraq in his 9/11 anniversary speech last night.

Cavuto began by asking Durbin what he would say if Bush hadn't mentioned Iraq at all.

Durbin said, "I think it would have been better..."

Cavuto, interrupting: "To not mention it at all?!"

Durbin: "Yes. I think we were trying to recall 9/11; what it meant to America, what it means to our future, to recall the people who have lost their lives, the innocent victims - the firefighters, the policeman - to summon that same feeling of unity, that spirit about fighting this war on terror. Unfortunately, when we went into the war in Iraq, it became part of a debate that's very heated in this political campaign."

Yeah, so?

From there Durbin proceeded to talk about how much we're spending in Iraq, how many U.S. lives have been lost there, how Bush squandered the unity felt round the world after 9/11, and how we have to support our troops. Durbin sounded like a petty nitpicker because he didn't mention the ONE THING that validated his argument - that even George Bush has admitted that Saddam Hussein and Iraq had "nothing" to do with 9/11. That was the only thing he had to say but it was the one thing he didn't say. As a matter of fact, Durbin didn't say anything about Iraq not having anything to do with 9/11!

If the points Durbin made today are the only reasons why he is upset that Bush mentioned 9/11 last night, I think he is being petty too. If they aren't the only reasons, and if the fact that Iraq played no part in 9/11 is one of them, I wonder why Dick Durbin didn't have the guts to say so.
