Brit Hume Using 9/11 Remembrance to Promote Ties to Iraq

Reported by Janie - September 12, 2006 -

Much of yesterday's (9/11) "Special Report" centered around the 5th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. One segment, filed by Fox News Correspondent Mike Emmanuel, focused on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, but Hume's introduction once again led viewers to connect Iraq with 9/11.

To open the segment, Hume said:

"The 9/11 attacks have led to counter attacks by American armed forces in two countries, and those conflicts are still ongoing. For the latest from both Afghanistan and Iraq, we turn to Mike Emmanuel."

Despite report after report concluding that Saddam Hussein had no ties to either Al Qaeda or Iraq, Hume used the solemn anniversary of 9/11 to once again make the claim that the two were in fact, linked.

Hume turned the segment over to Emmanuel, and no correction was made. No wonder Fox viewers are so inclined to believe the connection - they're constantly being spoon-fed this propaganda, even on a day where Americans should have come together to remember those lost - not continue receiving right-wing lies.
