Brave New Films documentary "Iraq for Sale" Gets Spread in WaPo

Reported by Marie Therese - August 21, 2006 -

As many of you know, our wonderful blogfather, Jim Gilliam, joined with OUTFOXED producer Robert Greenwald to create "Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers", an expose of the role of private security contractors in the Iraq war. Due out in October, the film promises to raise a lot of questions about the Department of Defense's planning and execution of the Iraq misadventure. Several of the News Hounds were among the many who researched the film. The documentary was funded by a few large donors and by 3,010 ordinary citizens and therein lies a tale, one told in an article in the Washington Post. Kudos to Jim and Robert and to the thousands of dedicated and passionate Americans whose average individual donation of $62.00 helped to get this movie made!

The Post reports:

The movie features interviews with Col. Janis Karpinski, former head of Abu Ghraib, translators and interrogators as well as survivors of personnel killed by Iraqi insurgents, including the contractors dragged through the streets of Fallujah and hanged from the bridge there in the spring of 2004. Some of these families are now involved in lawsuits against the companies.

There will be showings in a number of major American cities. However, the majority of the screenings will take place in the homes of people all across the country.
