Republicans may hold key to re-electing Lieberman in CT

Reported by Chrish - August 18, 2006 -

John Gibson's "My Word" segment today 8/17/06 crows that Democrats will be "embarrassed" in November when Joe Lieberman "likely" defeats Ned Lamont, Connecticut Democrats' primary choice, for his seat in the Senate. Another sentiment sure to be widespread in that scenario would be "furious," as he has essentially already been voted out but refuses to leave.

Gibson invoked "flagship of the far left on the Internet, the Daily Kos" and Michael Moore again to skew the audience's perception of CT voters. In acknowledging, if not apologizing for his outrageous remarks from last week, Gibson said

"I called them the Pol Pots of the far left, the Khmer Rouge. I said they wanted a mountain of skulls. People said I was being excessive. Perhaps, but no more excessive that the braying lefties screeching at any war supporters, I thought."

Saying that Moore and Daily Kos may have spoken too soon, Gibson cites a Quinnipiac poll that shows Lieberman beating Lamont in November:

"The Quinnipiac poll says Connecticut voters actually favor Lieberman in the general election — running as an independent — over Democrat Lamont by 11 points.
Among Republicans, Lieberman has a 62-point lead over Lamont. And among independents, Lieberman has a 22-point lead over Lamont.
This poll director said: 'Senator Lieberman's support among Republicans is nothing short of amazing. It more than offsets what he has lost among Democrats.'"

He's been accused of it before, but if Lieberman pulls this election off with wide support from Republicans he will forever be branded a DINO , a FOX Democrat, a faux Democrat. Something tells me he won't care.
