O'Reilly self-described pundit, analyst - distances self from "real journalism, fair and balanced"
Reported by Chrish - July 25, 2006 -
On the O'Reilly Factor last night host Bill O'Reilly referred to himself (in Talking Points Memo) as a "pundit" and later on said "upfront, I'm an analyst, not a reporter."
According to m-w.com, a pundit is
(3) : a person who gives opinions in an authoritative manner usually through the mass media : CRITIC;an analyst is one who does analysis, i.e.
1 : separation of a whole into its component parts, 2 a : the identification or separation of ingredients of a substance b : a statement of the constituents of a mixture.
Compared to journalism,
1 a : the collection and editing of news for presentation through the media ...
2 a : writing designed for publication in a newspaper or magazine b : writing characterized by a direct presentation of facts or description of events without an attempt at interpretation
it's wondrous to contemplate how he announces every night that you're entering the no-spin zone.
It's most ridiculous, every day.
