Didn’t You Just Know This Was Coming 2? Dick Morris Blames Clinton And Democrats For Middle East Conflict

Reported by Ellen - July 21, 2006 -

We should have started a pool for whoever guessed how long it would take someone on FOX News to blame Clinton for the current Middle East conflict. Last night on Hannity & Colmes (7/20/06) FOX News contributor Dick Morris did just that. He also spread the blame to some other FOX News fave targets: Democrats, the UN and Europe.

Alan Colmes introduced the segment by asking, “Will the Middle East Crisis Become A Major Issue In The Mid-Term Election?” There's no doubt in my mind that FNC will do everything in its power to make sure that it will.

Morris started by condescendingly dismissing Colmes' question, "What's wrong with the United States being a broker for peace?" Morris wouldn't even consider the possiblity. He continued, “You asked me here about domestic political reaction. I remember very clearly when I worked in the Clinton administration. Clinton had negotiated with Shimon Peres, the Israeli Prime Minister, a deal where the United States would make a formal defense commitment to Israel. Israel had never had that, still doesn’t have it. Then Clinton killed that proposal when Israel invaded southern Lebanon and went into the refugee camps. The difference between the anti-Israeli approach of Bill Clinton in that episode and the support of Israel of George Bush is tremendously important. I just wish that American Jews would pay attention to it – I’m Jewish – and would support the biggest ally they have, which is the Bush administration.”

When asked by Sean Hannity why American Jews don't realize that, Morris said, “It’s ironic but the right-wing, moral majority, evangelical wing of the Republican Party is more loyal to Israel than American Jews are.”

Morris was quick to agree with Hannity’s newest favorite saying, “Appeasement doesn’t work.” Morris added, “If there were a Democratic president right now, there is no question in my mind that Israel would be forced into a cease fire – a cease fire that would leave Hezbollah and Hamas in command and in control.”

In response to Hannity’s prodding, “What if (Iran and Syria) get a nuclear weapon?” Morris who, last I checked was a political strategist, not a foreign affairs expert, proclaimed, “Iran and Syria are not financing Hamas. Europe is financing Hamas. The UN is financing Hamas. Until recently, Israel and the US were.”

Maybe we could start a pool now... Which day after November 7 will this conflict, which has obscured the war in Iraq, come off the front burner?
