O'Reilly dismisses Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson civil suit

Reported by Chrish - July 14, 2006 -

It is a well recognized tactic of FOX "News" to relegate stories that are actually newsworthy to short cutesy segments, like Brit Hume's "Grapevine," where they are technically given air but no depth. Another use of these segments is to diminish the item's importance. Both missions were accomplished yesterday 7/12/06 on Bill O'Reilly's "Most Ridiculous Item of the Day," where the lawsuit filed by Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame got short shrift:

"

Former CIA operative Valerie Plame and her husband, Ambassador Joseph Wilson, have filed suit against Karl Rove and Vice President Cheney for releasing Ms. Plame's name to journalists, thereby putting her in danger, they say.

Former Cheney aide Lewis Libby, under indictment in the case, is also named in the civil suit, which supporters of President Bush will find ridiculous. But anti-Bush people will applaud. You can make your own call on this one."

With those scant sentences he's telegraphed to his viewers (who are old enough to remember that grand innovation) what their attitude towards the case and its outcome should be. It's just another little tidbit of propaganda - it never stops!
