Fox Still Promoting Reagan's Star Wars

Reported by Donna - July 12, 2006 -

Today on Fox News Live with Bob Sellers substituting for Bill Hemmer (12 - 1 p.m.) there was a segment on how well we could do on shooting down a long range missile.and guest Major General Burton Moore (Ret - US Air Force) said that we would have a high probability of success.

To end the segment Bob Sellers had to bring up Star Wars.

Here was his Star Wars remark, "They laughed at Star Wars, didn't they? Back when Ronald Reagan supported it and now it really looks like it's necessary."

Comments: First of all, Star Wars wasn't laughed at - it was funded to the tune of $50 billion of American tax payers money (make that the 1980's 50 billion dollars) and it failed time after time. As is mentioned in th\is article from the National Policy for Policy Analysis, the failure of the Star Wars Program is shown after taxpayers spent all of those billions of dollars. Laughing at it? I think that's a Republican talking point. Most of the Democratic suggestions were to approve of studies of the actual feasibility of a missile defense plan.
