Commercial Shows Happy Iraqi & Afghanistan Stories

Reported by Donna - July 5, 2006 -

Today during a commercial break from Studio B with Shepard Smith a commercial that was the epitome of the Happy Iraqi stories, one that this administration would like to go out on the news everyday, was shown.

It starts with a bomb dropping and a booming voice saying, "America's war on terror is stopping some of the most vile and dangerous men in the world." (Comment: Funny, the announcers voice sounded just like the same one who does Fox's promos)

We then see a picture of Abu Musab Al Zarqawi and in print it says 'Died 6-7-06, in Baquba, Iraq, Age 39'. Large stamp across his picture - DEAD. The announcer says, "The leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Musab Al Zarqawi, dead!"

Then the booming voice says, "The murderous dictator, Sudam Hussein, captured!" Captured is stamped across his photograh and it reads next to the picture, 'Captured, 12-13-03, in Ad-Dawr, Iraq, Age 69'. The voice then says, "His sons, Uday and Qusay, dead!" Dead is stamped across their photographs and it reads next to the pictures, 'Died 7-23-03, Ages 42 & 40'.

We then go to "Al Qaeda in Afghanistan leader, Mohamad Atef, dead!" Dead is stamped over his photograph and it reads next to the photograph, 'Died 11-14-01, Kabul, Afghanistan, Age 57'. "Al Qaeda, 9/11 Mastermind (Comment, Cold it be Osama? No) Khalid Sheik Moammed, arrested!:" Arrested is stamped across his photograph and it reads across from the photograph, 'Arrested, 3-1-03 in Pakistan, Age 42'. And, finally, "Al Qaeda in Iraq Commander, Abdallah-Najim Abdallagh al-Juwari, dead!" Dead is splashed across his photograp and it reads across from his photograph, 'Died, Killed 9-25-05, Baghdad, Iraq, age unknown'.

We then switch to pictures of our soldiers in Iraq with happy children around them, handing out packages, pictures of children in school and a picture of a hosptial. We see children shaking soldiers hands and Iraqi adults and children standing in front of a camera some of them giving the peace sign. (Comment: Some of the pictures could be of Afghanistand, the commercial doesn't distinguish for you)

The announcer says, "Our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan aren't just fighting terrorist cells, they're helping freedom and democracy flourish in lands once strangled by terror and violence. To the men and women of the United States Military, America says thank you for a job well done."

Comments: Funny, the announcer for the commercial sounded an awful like the same man who does the promos for Fox News. The propoganda was so thick I couldn't believe it. Contrast this commercial to a report from ABC:

Jul 5, 2006 — BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Baghdad's central morgue received 1,595 bodies last month — the highest number since the February bombing of a Shiite shrine sparked a wave of sectarian killings, a morgue official said on Wednesday. The figures show the level of violence in Iraq has increased even after the killing on June 7 of al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in a U.S. air strike.

Morgue assistant manager Doctor Abdul Razzaq al-Obaidi said tallies for June compared to the 1,375 bodies the morgue received in May and 1,155 in April.

"June is the highest month in terms of receiving cases of violence since Samarra," he told Reuters. Obaidi said most of the bodies had gunshot wounds to the head — a common feature of sectarian, execution-style killings.

The U.S. ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, said on Tuesday the death of Zarqawi had not improved security.

Comments: One is an actual news article and one is a pure propoganda commercial. I haven't seen this commercial run on any other station, but I welcome you to tell me if you see it anywhere else. We're seeing a record high number of dead in Iraq and Fox is feeding us Happy Iraqi stories.
