Fox's Own Commercial During Studio B - Touts Fear Mongoring & Uses 'Trust' Word Which CNN Has Used For Years
Reported by Donna - June 20, 2006
During Studio B with Shepard Smith during the commercials, Fox did a self promotion commercial that should win the title of 'Best Fear Mongoring' if there was such a category.
It started with a screen of people carrying a coffin and fire in the background and the screen read, 'Iraq A war-torn Region' and the announcer saying, "Murders and kidnappin in a war torn nation."
There was more.........
The second picture was of soldiers marching and missiles firing. The screen read 'Iran - Nuclear Standoff' while the announcer said, "Tensions mount over a nuclear standoff."
The third one was a missile sitting, waiting and the screen read 'North Korea - A Deadly Threat' while the announcer said, "A deadly missile threatens the U.S."
The announcer finished off the commercial, "Only one network has the best international coverage with breaking news lives as it happens. Only on Fox News Channel, The network America trusts." The screen read 'Fox News Channel, The Network America Trusts.'
Comment: After I stopped laughing from the announcer saying that Fox News had the best international coverage, I realized that I had just seen a commercial really steeped in fear mongoring. A deadly missile threatens the U.S.? It's a test missile. And why are we in these situations? Maybe the Bush Administration has something to do with it? Then they sealed it with their last line - guess the 'fair and balanced' thing isn't working anymore, they thought they'd use CNN's regular saying of the 'most trustworthy network' by calling themselves The Network America Trusts.
Only on Fox.
