FOX all over Democrat allegedly accepting bribes
Reported by Chrish - May 25, 2006
The Big Story today 5/24/06 had several segments on the FBI search of the Congressional office of Democrat William Jefferson, who appears to have been caught red-handed accepting a bribe from an undercover agent. Much of the coverage was devoted to bipartisan protests of the FBI search, with House Speaker Dennis Hastert viisibly and vocally opposing what he is calling an infringement on the separation of powers.
What is striking about this coverage is that there is so much of it. True, it is complemented by the FBI search angle, but where was this coverage and discussion when Randy Cunningham was being investigated? The only "Duke" we hear about on FOX is the University and the alleged rape scandal. Bob Ney? Who's he? And Jack Abramoff and Tom DeLay have dropped off the radar. Maybe if they had homemaking shows and donated to Democrats we'd be kept up to speed.
This reminds me of the Chandra Levy/ Congressman Gary Condit media madness in July-August 2001. At the same time that was going on, Congressman Joe Scarborough (R-FL) was unknown to the American public even though a young woman in his employ, Lori Klausutis, was found dead in his office, with conflicting reports on the cause of death.
Then as now the Republican scandal got little coverage and the Democrat in a similar situation grabbed all the headlines.
Fair and balanced? Don't make me laugh.
