Bush's "powerful and loyal team of defenders" - guess who?
Reported by Chrish - May 16, 2006
Jon Stewart did a multi-faceted skewering of the NSA domestic surveillance programs last night 5/15/06. Following a video clip of Bush's own denials of mining or trolling, Stewart said it was in essence Bush's "I did not have sex with that NSA program...Miss Lewinsky,"
When Stewart said "Fortunately, though, [Bush] is not alone. He does have a powerful and loyal team of defenders", I knew what was coming.
Sure enough, that swooshy "FOX News Alert" (the one with the boxing bell) and graphics appeared, then one of the a.m. blondes saying "It's not domestic surveillance without court approval..." followed by Bill Hemmer "we're just talkin' about collectin' phone numbers", Wendell Goler "and just the numbers, not data about what was said", the Dayside blonde "look, if you're not making phone calls to places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, then you're not going to be brought into this", Bill Hemmer again "if we get hit again, and you find out that they're not doing that, aren't you a little ticked off?", Mike Jerrick "if it's gonna keep me safe, I don't care" and Neil Cavuto "Yes it is not great to hear that they're collecting our phone records, but it's a heck of a lot better than collecting our remains."
As the audience groaned and booed , Stewart said "Wow. The entire network of anchors has been hired to be the press secretary!"
