Ben Stein: Rich People Should Tax Themselves to Increase Soldiers' Pay - and ONLY Soldiers' Pay!
Reported by Marie Therese - May 15, 2006
Last Saturday [5/12/06] during Cavuto on Business, Ben "Let 'em eat cake" Stein, notorious advocate for the idea that rich people are blessed by God and poor people are just an annoying drain on national resources, had an attack of conscience - or the closest thing to conscience that he's capable of. He's very concerned that our soldiers are underpaid and that their families struggle to keep body and soul together. His solution? The rich people of this country should belly up to the bar, dig into their pockets and assess themselves an extra 3% in taxes in order to increase basic military pay by $10,000 a year. In other words, Stein views the protection of the wealthy as the most important function of the armed forces and, in an effort to boost sagging enlistment numbers, wants the wealthy to be permitted to do what the rest of us aren't allowed to do - decide exactly where tax dollars should go.
