John Gibson: cheaters shouldn't win
Reported by Chrish - May 9, 2006
John Gibson's My Word segment today 5/9/06 dealt with the imminent breaking of Babe Ruth's home run record by Barry Bonds. Gibson's knickers are in a twist because "He should not be allowed to break a hallowed baseball record by cheating."
Gibson says "I think it is obvious he did (cheat, using steroids). I can't think of any serious person who doubts it. The book "Game of Shadows" by two San Francisco Chronicle reporters is evidence enough for me. The reporters demonstrate with clarity and authority that Bonds got to where he is on illegal drugs."
I don't care one way or another about baseball or records but in principle I agree with Gibson. I only wish he had read "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy" by Greg Palast or "Supreme Injustice" by Alan Dershowitz or "Down and Dirty: The Plot to Steal the Presidency" by Jake Tapper or even "Jews for Buchanan" by John Nichols. Maybe he would have focused his indignation on a much more consequential cheat.
This is really a microcosm of what's wrong with corporate media (FOX at the forefront but the others waddling behind ) - too much attention on pop culture and not enough on NEWS.
