FOX News Plugs Its Own Poll Showing Bush Numbers Rising While Rival Poll Shows His Numbers Static

Reported by Marie Therese - May 7, 2006

Last week FOX News aired the results of its newest "FOX News/Opinion Dynamics" poll, showing that President Bush's approval rate was 38%, an increase of 5% in the month of April. FNC aired the poll results non-stop. However, an AP-Ipsos poll released at the same time showed Bush's approval ratings static at 33%. It also revealed that there is a strong conservative revolt against Bush forming within the Republican Party.

*Just 33 percent of the public approves of Bush's job performance, the lowest of his presidency. That compares with 36 percent approval in early April. Forty-five percent of self-described conservatives now disapprove of the president.

*Just one-fourth of the public approves of the job Congress is doing, a new low in AP-Ipsos polling and down 5 percentage points since last month. A whopping 65 percent of conservatives disapprove of Congress.

*Most Americans say they want Democrats rather than Republicans to control Congress (51 percent to 34 percent). Even 31 percent of conservatives want Republicans out.

*Six of 10 conservatives say America is headed the wrong way. (AP-Ipsos poll, May 1-3, 2006)

Based on the results of its own polling, FOX News was able to present its viewers "good" news about President Bush at a time when another poll showed his numbers were static and that many Republicans are unhappy with their own party. During the time I watched FOX News last week (approximately 4 hours each day), there was no mention of the AP-Ipsos poll results.

You can view the results of the two polls (and others) at Polling Report.
