FOX News Anchor Harris Faulkner Spins Sham Ethics Bill For Republicans
Reported by Ellen - May 4, 2006
FOX News anchor Harris Faulkner managed to get in two pieces of pro-Republican bias during one of the brief news breaks during Hannity & Colmes last night (5/3/06). First, she adopted the president’s term for tax cuts as her own and without attribution. Referring to the proposed tax cut extension, she said, “Republicans on one committee have already agreed on a $70 billion tax relief package.” Less than 10 seconds later, Faulkner was touting the Lobby Ethics Bill. “The House narrowly passing a bill to keep lobbyists in check." But that's exactly what the bill seems not to do. The Washington Post described as “a sham” and “an insult to voters.”
Here are some of the bill’s “highlights,” according to an excellent analysis by Think Progress:
– No Restrictions on Lavish Gifts: Current gift limits will remain unchanged.
– No Ban on Free Exotic Trips: Lawmakers will still be able to accept lavish privately-funded trips from lobbyists.
– No Enforcement of Existing Rules: The bill “includes no mechanism for enforcing and monitoring old and new rules.”

Faulkner might be eligible for an award for most bias in the shortest period of time.
