Much ado about nothing

This may be the biggest non-story ever seen on the so-called Big Story, and that's saying something. Today 4/26/06 they found three minutes m/l to spend on California drivers pretending to be stranded in order to get a free gallon of gas from the roadside service guys.
Jane Skinner interviewed a man from the Orange County TA Motorist Services. He seemed to be keeping the issue in perspective, saying they monitor such things but they get about 3,000 calls a day so can't, as Skinner says some tow truck drivers suggest, put their license plates out there to catch them trying to get a second gallon in a different county.
It was truly theater of the absurd and makes me wonder why FOX (and their echo chamber) is getting positively hysterical over gas prices. This issue has skyrocketed to THE issue in a matter of days, with speeches and legislation and pundits everywhere you turn blaming their opposition.
To me it's just another distraction, another target for anger (at corporations, at the government, at your ideological opponents, whether they be "do-nothings" or "obstructionists"). Divide, inflame, distract.
