Fox Blames the Deficit on Tax Cheats

Reported by Melanie - April 14, 2006

Today (April 14, 2006) on Your World w/Cavuto, Neil Cavuto hosted a roundtable discussion about people who withhold a portion of their income taxes to protest U.S. government war spending. The four participants were, as Cavuto called them, "the Cost of Freedom all-stars," meaning they were cast members from Fox's Saturday morning "block" of four "business news" shows which Fox collectively refers to as the "Cost of Freedom."

The panelists compared the tax protesters to the Unabomber (he "didn't have to follow the rules of this country" either), to people who were "happy with Hitler" and "happy with Saddam Hussein," and they unanimously called for their immediate imprisonment (for breaking the law and for "being ignorant").

Terry Keenan, a Fox News "business correspondent" and the host of one of those Saturday morning shows, Cashin' In, was one of the participants. At one point during the discussion she brought up the deficit. Here's what she said:

There are tens of millions of Americans, and that's probably not too big a number, who are cheating on their taxes and if there was compliance and if they were made to stick to the laws, we wouldn't have a budget deficit right now.

Comment: Just like in the Bush administration itself, on Fox, you get to be an "all-star" if you're real good at blaming someone, anyone, but the Bush administration, for what's gone wrong.
