Fox's Eric Burns - If Katie Couric Doesn't Succeed - Huge Embarrassment for CBS
Reported by Donna - April 5, 2006
Today on Studio B with Shepard Smith, Eric Burns a Fox Senior Correspondent out of New York came on to speak about the decision CBS made to chose Katie Couric to become their CBS Evening News anchor.
Burns did make references that other evening news anchors of major networks hadn't done 'cooking segments' and 'fluff' stories like Katie had done on the Today Show. He commented that it wasn't a risk for Couric as she would be making lots of money, but if this didn't work out for CBS it could be a huge embarrassment.
He also made the point that National Evening News doesn't matter as much as it used to. (No, he didn't back this up)
Comments: Fox is always talking about other networks who put down their competitors, (not that cable evening news numbers come anywhere even close to the major news networks, ABC, CBS and NBC) but they seem especially willing to do it themselves, especially when it comes to CBS.
Isn't it nice that CBS got the little woman who's done cooking and fluff segments? And, memo to Burns? Major networks Evening News programs matter to a whole lot of people. The numbers of people who watch any one of the three networks evening news programs far exceed the numbers of people who watch cable news.
