Thank Alan Colmes For Challenging Fred Thompson On His Accusation That Democrats Don’t Want The US To Win The War In Iraq

Reported by Ellen - April 4, 2006

Update on the FOX News war on Democrats: Sean Hannity was as hate-filled about Democrats as ever but at least he didn’t paint them as un-American or traitors so let us give thanks. Hannity & Colmes guest (4/3/06) former Senator Fred Thompson tried to say that Democrats don’t want the US to win the war in Iraq but backed off to some degree once Alan Colmes confronted him.

In a discussion about the “Bush-hating” Democrats, Thompson told Hannity, “The president can be legitimately criticized on a lot of things in terms of war, in terms of tactics and so forth but we should have no disagreement in terms of our purpose and our desire to win. When one side is taking the positions and behaving as if they’re not for that, that really, really is divisive.”

Colmes said “You know in terms of win, someone’s got to define what ‘win’ is. The Commander-in-Chief ought to define what win actually means and how to achieve it… And don’t say Democrats don’t want us to win. That’s not a fair – "

Thompson stuttered a bit, then said, “No, I believe the overwhelming majority do. But they spend all their time in such a manner and behave in such a manner that the American people are getting at least mixed messages about it.”
