Greta Van Susteren's Conflict of Interest
Reported by Melanie - April 3, 2006
Fox devoted Your World w/Neil Cavuto today (April 3, 2006) to "news" about the decision to make Zacarias Moussaoui eligible for the death penalty. The decision was announced, live, minutes after the show began and immediately afterward, Cavuto introduced Fox "legal analyst" Greta Van Susteren who explained the ramifications of the decision. Eight minutes on, Van Susteren said this:
I'll tell you one thing -- oddly enough -- in 1978 I was an intern for this judge when she was a federal prosecutor and this was one of the, I mean, you couldn't find a better judge in the sense that when she was a federal prosecutor -- she's always been very steady, stern, and fair.
Comment: Ethically challenged Fox News (here and here) should prohibit Van Susteren from commenting on anything having to do with Moussaoui or cases heard by Judge Leonie Brinkema. Not only that, if Van Susteren is the fine, upstanding attorney she seems to think she is, she should recuse herself ASAP.
