Join Me In Asking Fidelity Investments How They Can Support Sean Hannity's McCarthyite Tactics

Reported by Ellen - April 1, 2006

Sean Hannity launched another tirade designed to paint Democrats as treasonous Friday night (3/31/06). If, like me, you are alarmed that a national network host would try to infringe on your patriotic rights to speak out about government policy, then please join me in contacting Hannity & Colmes advertiser Fidelity Investments as the beginning of an effort to fight back. Here's a copy of the email I just sent Fidelity questioning their decision to advertise on Hannity & Colmes.

Recently, I have noticed that you are a regular advertiser on FOX News’ Hannity & Colmes. Tonight’s ad seemed to focus on the ways that Fidelity serves a diverse group of investors. It made me wonder how you can reconcile such inclusive goals with the McCarthyite tactics regularly used by Sean Hannity against those with whom he disagrees politically. I am especially concerned about that because I am one of those people.

On a regular basis, he insinuates that those who do not support President Bush are traitors. For example, on 3/20/06, he said, “There used to be a time where the left cared about humanity, about security, about liberty. But obviously that's not the case anymore because if they had had their way, and now we're talking about the appeasement-minded, surrender-minded Democrats of today.”

I’m a strong believer in free speech and vigorous debate but demonizing people who disagree with you is not only divisive, it’s un-American and dangerous, especially during a time of war.

As a liberal, I am very concerned about your supporting someone who makes these kinds of attacks on people like me. How can you possibly justify it?

I look forward to your response.

Note to readers: It's my plan to concentrate our efforts on one advertiser at a time. That makes it easier for us and makes our protests more focused and, I hope, have a greater impact each time.
