Jack Abramoff sentencing being underplayed on FOX?

Reported by Chrish - March 30, 2006

While there was a breaking news alert for the UN-issued statement on Iran during The Big Story, there was no such alert or breaking news about the sentence handed down in Florida to lobbyist and Republican palm-greaser Jack Abramoff. There is a sub-headline on the front page of their website which links to a page in "Politics".

Remeber when Martha Stewart was sentenced?

Martha Mania Reported by Nancy - July 16, 2004

FNL spent the early part of the morning hyping the fact that Martha Stewart would be sentenced today. Once the sentence was handed down & publicly available ...
... FNL went to an all-Martha, all-the-time, format. In addition to endless speculation & commentary offered by their own reporters & anchors, FNL interviewed a number of attorneys. Rick Folbaum's efforts to whip up some outrage fell flat, as every attorney interviewed pointed out that the judge's sentence was within sentencing guidelines. The only guest who fell into line was Danit Ran Schreiber, an image consultant, who contributed the brilliant insight that Stewart should have worn colors like peach rather than black, which was "too severe"

Cavuto on the Day Martha Stewart was Sentenced Reported by Melanie - July 16, 2004

Your World w/Neil Cavuto today (July 15, 2004) was essentially all Martha, all the time. (This isn't particular to Fox. They're all doing it.
Some of my favorite comments are:
Cavuto opening the show at 4:00 p.m. ET: "Just call her Martha Stewart Schwarzenegger." (Reacting to Stewart speaking outside the courthouse after her sentencing.)
Banner at the bottom of the screen opening a segment at 4:07 p.m. ET: BIG HOUSE BO$$?
Cavuto at approximately 4:08 p.m. ET, trying to redirect a round table discussion about Stewart: But I want to concentrate this "down to what she wore, down to how she acted...."
Terry Keenan in the same round table discussion: "She showed no remorse."
Cavuto at 4:09 p.m. ET after showing a brief live shot of Bush making a campaign speech in Beckley, WV: "No doubt he [Bush] will be taking some pride in the fact that his administration has the appearance, at least, of cracking down on corporate crime." (Thanks for planting the thought Neil.)
Keenan, at 4:10 p.m. ET, commenting on Stewarts after-sentencing statement: "Peter [Bacanovic, Stewart's stock broker who was also sentenced today] didn't use this as a soap box for his ambitions."
Cavuto going to a break at 4:11 p.m. ET: "Does Wall Street like the fact that Martha may do time? Is that why her stock shot up so much today?" and more....

You Can Tell It's Friday Reported by Melanie - July 16, 2004

It's Friday, July 16, 2004 and as is true most Fridays, Dayside w/Linda Vester was fairly flat. Fortunately for all the networks (but unfortunate for the viewing audience), Martha Stewart was sentenced today so they have a lot of cheap material to fill the day with. Dayside was no exception.

She's a Democratic supporter. He's a Republican operative. I'm just sayin'.
