Oops. Watch Bill O'Reilly and Fox News Squirm

Reported by Melanie - March 27, 2006

On Friday morning, the French telecommunications company, Alcatel SA, announced that it may buy Lucent Technologies, Inc., for "at least $12.06 billion."

You'd think Fox's "premiere business news" program, Your World w/Neil Cavuto, would cover this story, wouldn't you? Well, if you thought that, you'd be wrong. As of today, Monday March 27, 2006, there hasn't been any coverage, unless I missed a scroll at the bottom of the screen or a headline in a flashing box somewhere.

Poor Fox. I can imagine the fix it's in. Bill O'Reilly called for a boycott of French goods and then claimed he'd single handedly destroyed the French economy. Fox's anchors and guests have spent years bashing the French for not supporting the invasion of Iraq, claiming they're dithering, withering, Socialists while at the same time trumpeting the magnificence of the US and its economy and corporations. So I can see why Fox might have a problem spinning this news. Poor thang. Caught in its own trap.
