“Democrat” Pat Caddell Played His Democrat-Bashing Cards Well. Now He’s A FOX News Contributor

Reported by Ellen - February 10, 2006

Pat Caddell, the “Democratic Strategist” whose main strategy seems to be bashing Democrats on FOX News, has seen his efforts pay off in the form of a paid position as a FOX News Contributor.

Caddell, a pollster, was on Hannity & Colmes tonight to discuss the latest FOX News poll showing, as FOXNews.com put it, “that voters see Democrats as better at handling an array of key issues and gaining public trust on some areas traditionally considered Republican strengths. In addition, more voters think it would be better for the country if Democrats win control of Congress in this year’s election.” But leave it to Caddell to use the entire time talking about why that's bad news for Democrats.

Alan Colmes introduced Caddell as a FOX News Contributor. Colmes' first question suggested the H&C producers wanted him to set things up for Caddell. “Consistently on issue after issue, the American public says they favor the Democrats but the Democrats have not been able to capitalize on it. Will they finally be able to do so?”

Caddell started out by pointing out that the one big issue where Democrats are not favored is terrorism. “The party, as I keep saying, you know, looks like the gang that couldn’t shoot straight… Democrats are moaning and groaning, ‘how can we be in this situation and doing so badly?’ It’s partly because, Alan, our party has a problem which is standing up for its principles.” He went on to complain about the partisanship which he seemed to blame on Democrats as well. “Conspiracies everywhere. This has got to stop.”

When it was Sean Hannity’s turn, he told Caddell that what the Democrats are doing “isn’t working.” The polls just said otherwise but Caddell claimed, “Look what’s going on in the world. Every time you have one of these situations (apparently referring to the Muslim cartoon protests), it strengthens Bush’s hand… You win elections by standing for something. I have to hand it to Bush. In 2002, against everyone’s advice… he went right at the Democrats and won. You’ve got to be able to do that. You’ve got to stand for what you believe.”
