Ann Coulter "jokes" joins Bill O'Reilly's "satire"

Reported by Chrish - February 5, 2006

Right-wing darling Ann Coulter "joked" last week that Supreme Court Justice Stevens should be assassinated to bring the court further right, so they can outlaw abortion. Such a pro-life attitude! We haven't noted it earlier on News Hounds because, if it was reported at all on FNC, it was done quickly and then dismissed. Can you imagine if someone on the left called for the murder of a right-wing justice and then tried to pass it off as a "joke"?

As far as we can determine this is the extent of the coverage given her outrageous remarks:

Coulter Jokes About Poisoning Supreme Court Justice
Friday, January 27, 2006

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Conservative commentator Ann Coulter, speaking at a traditionally black college, joked that Justice John Paul Stevens should be poisoned.

Coulter had told the Philander Smith College audience Thursday that more conservative justices were needed on the Supreme Court to change the current law on abortion. Stevens is one of the court's most liberal members.

"We need somebody to put rat poisoning in Justice Stevens' creme brulee," Coulter said. "That's just a joke, for you in the media."

Coulter has made a career of writing and lecturing on her strongly conservative views.

At one point during her address, which was part of a lecture series, some audience members booed when she cut off two questioners. "I'm not going to be lectured to," Coulter told one man in a raised voice.

She drew more boos when she said the crack cocaine problem "has pretty much gone away."

Ari Fleischer told us years ago to watch what we say, but apparently he meant non-Bush supporters have to self-censor. If you're "with them", you can say anything and get away with it. Calling it a joke is just a passive-aggressive tactic to cover her scrawny butt.

Kids can't say "bang, bang" on the playground, we can't utter the word "bomb" in an airport, and a line drawing of a grievously wounded soldier has the Joint Chiefs in a tizzy, but she can get away with THIS? There's a dangerous double standard in this country.

Amended: As Ellen reminded me, below:
Daily Kos is advocating for people to contact the FBI, the state Attorney General and the federal prosecutor in Little Rock. It seems that Ms Coulter's "joke" was against the law.

Send Coulter up the river where she belongs.

Thanks, Ellen, I totally spaced.
