Don't 'Honey' me, Buster
Reported by Judy - January 28, 2006
Market analyst Tobin Smith has always come across to me as one of those guys that pats his secretary on the rear end when he asks her (and he'd never hire a male secretary) to do something, so it was no surprise to me when he used a condescending term to address a female analyst on "Bulls and Bears" on Saturday (January 28, 2006).
Smith, founder of changewaveresearch.com, was discussing corporate earnings and prospects for the stock market with Danielle Hughes, president of Divine Capital Markets. Hughes had made the point that companies who had been beating earnings expectations were energy companies.
"No, no honey," Smith said, as they talked over each other.
I wish Hughes would have shot back with, "Don't 'Honey' me, Buster!" but she didn't.
It seems to me that the president of a company deserves more respect from Smith. But, heck, a few minutes later we found out that host Brenda Buttner has her own "honey" on the show as a frequent guest. (See previous post.) But Hughes seems way too classy to hang out with a slickster like Smith.
