Does Being A Hunter S. Thompson Fan Tell You Something About The Person?

Reported by Donna - January 26, 2006

When it comes to political affiliation, Shepard Smith refuses to disclose his, but today he, surprisingly, showed an affinity for Hunter S.Thompson.

In a segment about Oprah Winfrey apologizing for saying that the truth didn't matter when it came to the story from James Frey, author of the (now known) part fiction novel, A Million Little Pieces, Smith's guest, Mark Schannon, Crisis Consultant said that Oprah did the right thing. Schannon said, "I think Oprah just got trapped in the middle of it. Do you really believe Hunter Thompson did everything that he said he did?

Smith cut in, became very animated and said, "Yes!" Schannon said, "You do?" Smith said, "I believe Hunter Thompson did everything he said he did and I wish I'd been there for 99% of it. Oh, c'mon, he had to have. I don't know...I love Hunter Thompson. You know when I would really have liked to been there? It's when they shot his ashes out of the cannon. I would have killed to have been there for that."

Comment: A segment on Oprah turned into a love-fest for Hunter Thompson by Smith. The question is, does this tell us anything about Shepard Smith, the person?
