Grapevine Whine - Whose Plantation Is It, Anyhow?

Reported by Nancy - January 20, 2006 -

Wednesday night (1/18) on Special Report, Brit Hume used the very first "pickings" on his Grapevine segment to try to prolong the phony "controversy" over Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) saying that the House of Representatives “has been run like a plantation." But when Hume read his snice little "picking" the only people he quoed as being critical of Clinton were Scott McClellan & Laura Bush (who, acoording to Hume, said it was "ridiculous"). I'm not surprised Hume couldn't find more sources to "denounce" Clinton -- it turns out that reactionaries have been using that precise word quite a lot.

Comments:
Think Progress found Newt Gingrich using it just before he became Speaker of the House:

“I clearly fascinate them,” Gingrich said of the Democrats. “I’m much more intense, much more persistent, much more willing to take risks to get it done. Since they think it is their job to run the plantation, it shocks them that I’m actually willing to lead the slave rebellion.” [Washington Post, 10/20/94]

I can't wait for Fox to demand apologies from all of them (don't worry, I'm not holding my breath).
