Pillorying Hillary on Big Story

Reported by Chrish - January 12, 2006

John Gibson attempted to tie Senator Hillary Clinton to singer Harry Belafonte today 1/12/06 on The Big Story. Belafonte has been in the news for his recent comments, which he refused to back away from, that GW Bush is the world's greatest terrorist. Clinton and Belafonte were both at a meeting today of the Children's Defense Fund, and Gibson seized the opportunity to link the two complete with a chyron "Hillary and Harry". "Former Clinton advisor" Dick Morris was the guest to comment on the event and "the fun mix of of celebrities and politics."

Gibson asked Morris if Hillary Clinton is "tarred" by appearing at the same function as Belafonte, even though she was not in the same room as he when he made his remarks. Morris' reply, "No, I don't hink so. She tars herself, she doesn't need any (Gibson interjects "help") help."

The segment had little or nothing to do with Clinton, although Gibson tried another time to bring her in, saying that Morris wrote a column the other day that said "the American electorate, and this plays into the Hillary discussion I guess, is turning leftward. What do you mean?" Morris' reply had nothing whatsoever to do with Senator Clinton specifically, but the connection had been made - Hillary=left.

The point is that Fox, so-called "fair and balanced" network, would even make such a reach to connect the two in the first place. It's an early election-year strike, and I'm sure one of many many attempts to smear Mrs. Clinton.
