Don’t You Just Know That Someone At FOX News Is Frantically Looking For Evidence That Bill Clinton Took Money From Jack Abramoff?

Reported by Ellen - January 6, 2006

Developing: Last night (1/5/06) on Hannity & Colmes, FOX News tried the “everybody does it” approach to covering the Abramoff scandal. In an introduction to the discussion, Alan Colmes, obviously reading pre-written lines, announced something to the effect that Abramoff donated to both Democrats and Republicans and implied that it was a bi-partisan scandal about the workings of Congress. But as soon as he was speaking extemporaneously, Colmes made a point of distinguishing between taking contributions, which are completely legal, and the illegal act of taking funds for some kind of quid pro quo, which is illegal. Funny how FOX News frames the story to make it look better for Bush. See this excellent article from Media Matters debunking the “everybody does it” spin.

Sean Hannity announced that he was in favor of prosecuting anybody who broke the law. Then he cleverly tried to dispose of the subject by asking guest Bob Beckel why Democrats never offer any constructive policies, are filled with hate, and only want to turn attack Bush. It would have been a great opportunity for Beckel to bring up Murtha. He came up with a plan and everyone, including Hannity, attacked him for it. Instead, Beckel said that Democrats are an opposition party with no control over setting the legislative agenda. Then Beckel adroitly brought the subject back to Abramoff.

Comment: Sorry for the sketchy post. I inadvertently left the DVD out of my recorder! I'll try to get it on re-run.
