FOX Swings Into 2006 Midterm Election Campaign Mode

Reported by Melanie - January 3, 2006

OK folks, fasten your seat belts. FOX officially kicked off its anti-Democrat, 2006 midterm election campaign today with its first hint that the economy will tank if Democrats win, one of its tried and true lies from 2004.

Today (January 3, 2005) on Your World w/Neil Cavuto, Cavuto hosted a roundtable discussion about what the stock market will do this year. One of the participants was Fox's Brenda Buttner, a "senior business correspondent," and the host of Fox's Saturday morning "business news" program, Bulls & Bears.

Buttner's prediction:

Well, you know, I don't usually go by all of these barometers - the Super Bowl barometer, all of that stuff - but it does say within the first five trading days, if it goes up, chances are, on average, that the whole year will be better. So, it will be an up year. But, I think there are other factors coming up that really will portend that we have a very good year. I think interest rates are going down. That's basically why the Dow rallied today. Energy prices are going down. The only real uncertainty is the midterm election...

Cavuto, interrupting: "Yeah."

Buttner continued:

...and I think that could really throw a wrench into things. (Emphasis added.)

Comment: Veteran FOX watchers knew exactly what Buttner meant. Below are but a few of the posts I made in the summer and fall of 2004 when FOX repeatedly equated Kerry with a bad economy, scaring viewers into thinking they would lose their life savings and live in financial hell if he won. It looks like they're at it again. If this year is anything like 2004, FOX will beat this drum several times a week (on Your World alone), week after week after week until November 7.

Second Comment: If FOX cared about quality, it would demote or fire Buttner. As a "senior business correspondent," she doesn't know what she's talking about, in more ways than one. She said (above) that the market "rallied" today because "interest rates are going down." Who said interest rates were going down? Nobody (but Buttner). Per Bloomberg: "U.S. stocks began the year with their biggest rally since October, sparked by a signal that the Federal Reserve may soon stop raising interest rates." The propaganda never stops.
