A Christmas Memory For John Gibson

Reported by Deborah - December 24, 2005

A very unpleasant review of John Gibsons book ,The War On Christmas, was discovered on Amazon.com. The review was written on 12/22/05 and was available throughout the weekend. It has recently been scrubbed but not before many people had a chance to read it. There is no way to verify this review and News Hounds is not claiming there is any truth this recollection. However, if it is true, it is a memory that Gibson would want to repress.

The review describes a personal experience with Gibson when the book reviewer was a child and he visited her home for Christmas dinner. The details are quite inflammatory and not important to my point. However, her closing line struck me as quite appropriate.

If there is a war on Christmas, Christmas deserves a better defender than John Gibson.

Comment : In the first version of this post I had the entire review posted. Throughout the day, it bothered me more and more. It didn't feel right to me and yet, I told myself, Gibson has done this to other people time after time. By late afternoon I revised the post leaving only the opening paragraph without a link to the entire review. Now that the review has been scrubbed, I'm more than happy to remove it all.

There is no doubt in my mind that John Gibson deserves to be embarrassed. The fact that I didn't feel okay with it points to a another important question. Why should it be so difficult for me and so easy for people like John Gibson who doesn't seem to care who he hurts or disgraces in public?

After going through the News Hounds archives, I was reminded of so many instances that John Gibson used his high profile show on Fox to spread unsubstantiated stories to discredit others. Gibson has a long list of victims that should be on his conscience like Joe Wilson, John Kerry, Teresa Heinz Kerry, Michael Schiavo,Michael Moore, Cindy Sheehan, George Clooney for starters. Then I remembered all the countries he has insulted like France, Canada, Mexico, and Holland without a thought of how he would be influencing our fragile international relations. Then of course, there is this recent attack on Liberals blaming them for plotting to bring down Christmas.

John Gibson is cruel, insensitive and devious in my opinion. He puts himself on a pedestal of patriotic self righteousness and spreads lies that will hurt others night after night on International TV. So maybe Gibson didn't get drunk and obnoxious at a Christmas dinner in 1989. True or not, it is an embarrassment and nothing more. However some of the damage he has inflicted on his victims, their families and careers has been serious. Maybe Gibson should take some stock of himself this Christmas.
