Is Neil Gabler Really on Vacation?
Reported by Melanie - December 11, 2005
On the December 3 edition of Fox News Watch, during a discussion about the alleged "war on Christmas," "liberal" commentator Neil Gabler said that those who allege there is a "war on Christmas" (specifically Fox's Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and John Gibson), "[D]o it every Christmas. They did it last Christmas; they'll do it next Christmas." He said, "The media, particularly Fox media, has been pumping the hell out of this thing."
Gabler's plain spoken assessment of the "war" caused quite a stir. On December 5, Fox's John Gibson, who labeled Gabler an "ultra-lefty liberal," said, "If Neil were in charge, I'd be sent off to a Khmer Rouge re-education camp to make sure that his message that there is no war on Christmas is beat into my head." A writer at Free Republic.com said, "Gabler stopped just short of calling Fox's audience dumb and malleable."
On December 10, Fox News Watch host Eric Burns introduced the panel, sans Gabler. According to Burns, Gabler was "vacationing" and he was being replaced by CeCi Connolly of the ultra-conservative Washington Times.
Comment: Is Neil Gabler really "vacationing"? Could it be that he is being eased out for committing the ultimate sin on Fox - telling the truth? And why didn't Fox replace Gabler, even if only temporarily, with someone of Gabler's ilk instead of someone from the Fox-like Washington Times? Hummm...
