Terry McAuliffe: No Presidential Pardon for Libby

Reported by Marie Therese - November 6, 2005

On this morning's Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer, former RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie went head to head with his old nemesis, Terry McAuliffe, former DNC Chairman. Amid the talking points and political sparring, McAuliffe finally asked Gillespie an important question, one that should be reiterated constantly by all Democrats and Independents until Election 2006. The question? WIll George Bush promise NOT TO PARDON Lewis "Scooter" Libby in the event Mr. Libby is found guilty? Gillespie stammered out a non-answer, so it would appear that McAuliffe hit a nerve here. Coupled with last week's enforced "closed door" session of the Senate, we might (fingers crossed) hope that the comfortable old warriors in the Democratic Party leadership have realized, at long last, that appeasing Republicans gets them precisely nowhere! Wonder if our friends at FOX News will even mention the word "pardon" next week?
