Beltway Boys Sift Through Republican Ruins For Hope
Reported by Deborah - November 5, 2005
Fred Barnes announced hat Bush has hit rock bottom as he prepares for his political recovery. Mort Kondaracke added that "Dems smell blood in the water because there is blood in the water." The Beltway Boys were no longer able to avoid the truth today, 12/5, on Beltway Boys and even brought up what Kondaracke called "the I word".
Barnes talked about a Bush press conference in Argentina where Bush was asked about Karl Rove and then showed a clip of Bush trying to answer the press but looking completely inept. Even Barnes had to admit that he didn't do a very good job. Getting a little worked up, he said that Bush is not going to apologize for something he didn't do and he's not going to fire Rove.
Switching over to the Harry Reid and the investigation of pre war intelligence forced by Democrats this week, the Boys got into a defensive spin. Barnes called Democrats crazy and then claimed that the 16 words about yellow cake in Niger turned out to be true. Kondaracke added that Democrats are working up to "the I word" but there is no evidence at all.
Then Kondaracke sounded like a Democrat for a moment saying that Bush has been a divider, not a uniter and wondered why the administration didn't just answer Joe Wilson's original NYT piece openly. Barnes got all defensive saying," The White House was in a panic." Kondaracke came back at him claiming that this administration has " a secrecy mania." Kondaracke's rebellion ended there.
comment: There was a distinct change in mood today on the Beltway Boys. The confidence in the Bush Presidency seemed to be gone but they seemed unsure of how to proceed without it.
