So Much for "Balance" on FNL

Reported by Nancy - October 27, 2005 -

Today (10/27) the last hour of FNL was devoted to the withdrawal of Harriet Miers's nomination to the Supreme Court. Again, in direct opposition to their own tagline of "fair & balanced," FNL solicited opinions & analysis overwhelmingly from GOPs, & showed clips of a number of Senators (all GOPs) making statements about the situation. The only topic deemed worthy enough to interrupt the Miers-fest was the arrival of GWBush (GOP) in FL to "tour" the damage caused by Hurricane Wilma with his brother Jeb (GOP).

Here's the outline of the last hour:
12:00pm - Hemmer showed a clip of Sen Sam Brownback (R-KA)
12:01pm - Hemmer interviewed Ed Rogers (GOP) about the "backstory" of the withdrawal
12:02pm - ALERT - Sen John Cornyn (R-TX) statement
12:05pm - back to interviewing Rogers
12:05pm - Hemmer interviewed Sen George Allen (R-VA)
12:10pm - back to interviewing Rogers
12:10pm - Senate with Sen Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) speaking on the floor of the Senate
12:13pm - Hemmer interrviewed Sen Chuck Schumer (D-NY)
12:15pm - interrupt to show video of Jeb Bush waiting for GWBush in FL
12:19pm - teasers: Miers; Bush in FL
12:19pm - Sen Arlen Specter (R-PA) speaking on the floor of the Senate
12:21pm - Hemmer interviewed Tony Snow
12:26pm - Hemmer interviewed Eric Dezenhall & Peter Mirijanian (crisis management consultants)
12:29pm - teasers: Miers; Bush in FL
12:33pm - FNL showed video of Bush getting off Air Force One while Hemmer commented that power is back in Port Everglades
12:34pm - Hemmer showed Fox/Opinion Dynamics poll (Miers favorable 24% unfavorable 23%)
12:35pm - Major Garrett reported on the "timeline" of the withdrawal & discussed it with Hemmer
12:38pm - Megyn Kendall reported on the likely next SCOTUS nomination
12:41pm - Hemmer interviewed Jay Sekulow (Amer Center for Law & Justice)
12:43pm - FNL showed video of Bush arriving in FL & Hemmer said "he will tour the area"
12:47pm - FNL continued to show video of Bush in FL while Hemmer interviewed Rich Masters (Dem) & Terry Holt (GOP)
12:49pm - Sen Arlen Specter (R-PA) speaking on the floor of the Senate
12:51pm - back to Masters & Holt interview

Comments: You do the math: Brownback + Rogers + Allen + Hutcison + Specter + Snow + Sekulow + Holt vs Schumer + Masters. That adds up to 8 vs 2 (not including the theoretically neutral Dezenhall & Mirjanian on either list). And that's not even counting the video of the Bushes.

NOTE TO READERS: Please stay on topic (the withdrawal of Miers's nomination, & FNL's coverage of it). O/T comments will be deleted. Thanks.
