When Will Democrats Learn That Kissing Ass Gets Them Nowhere?
Reported by Melanie - October 3, 2005
The first segment of Your World (Fox's alleged "business news" program) today (October 3, 2005) was a report by Wendell Goler about Bush's nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court. Goler said some conservatives wanted, "a judge committed to roll back abortion rights and to boost states rights," a judge, "in the mold of Antonin Scalia or Clarence Thomas." Goler said conservatives, "were prepared for the fight with Democrats that might cause," but Bush wants a "smooth confirmation like he had with John Roberts." Goler said Bill Insider Trading Frist and Arlen Specter "were positive," and "some Democrats cheered the pick but Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy asked whether Miers will be a real swing vote like Sandra Day O'Connor was."
Over a chyron that read, "Political Battle Over Harriet Miers Nomination," Fox aired video of Leahy saying, "What kind of swing voter is she gonna be? Is this somebody who can come in and look at each case as it is, or, will she feel that she has been bound to the President who has appointed her?"
Comment: No question -- Leahy voted for Roberts -- he'll vote for Miers. The press conference Leahy held today was designed to impress -- I don't know who -- maybe his mother. Meanwhile, video aired everywhere (but not on Your World) showing Harry Reid, the "Senate Democratic leader" (what a "leader" huh?) kissing up to Miers and we all know now that it was Reid's suggestion that the President (Cheney, that is) nominate her.
Leave it to Fox News to depict the groveling Democrats as obstructionists no matter how far up the Republican butt they crawl.
