Fox Frightened by Phil Donohue?
Reported by Janie - September 23, 2005
Yesterday (9/22) on Dayside, Juliet Huddy and Mike Jerrick did a little cross-promotion for Bill O'Reilly's show, and showed a very brief clip of Phil Donohue on the O'Reilly Factor.
The portion of the clip they used was:
O'REILLY (very angry, pointing): My nephew just enlisted in the Army. You don't know what the hell you're talking about!!!
DONAHUE: Very good. Very good. Congratulations! You should be proud ..
O'REILLY (starts to lose it, shouting, pointing finger, hand shaking): And he's a patriot, so don't denigrate his service or I'll boot you right off the set!!!
DONAHUE: I'm not ... I'm not ...
O'REILLY (very, very loud): That boy made a decision to serve his country!!! Do not denigrate him or you're outta here!!!
When the clip was over, and the cheers from the audience had mostly subsided, Huddy began: "There's probably not a lot of love lost between those two anyway, so you knew it was going to be rough. I'm sure O'Reilly probably knew he was going to start doing one of those things. I probably would have been the same way though, it starts getting personal, you start bringing up family that would have infuriated me."
MJ: "They started getting into it a little more and Phil Donahue started calling Bill, Billy."
JH: "Bill O'Reilly's a big guy, he was getting PO'd."
MJ: "Do you realize how tall Bill is? Because you always see him sitting down, he gets up and he's a giant of a man "
JH: "Do you think Donahue was purposely pushing his buttons bringing up family members into the conversation?"
Comment: Touchy, touchy! Looks like Fox felt they needed to do a little damage control after O'Reilly was visibly wounded from the spat with Donohue. The only portion of the show Dayside provided was the portion where O'Reilly was yelling at Donohue, and Donohue looked somewhat meek. They refused to show the remainder of the segment, in which Donohue spoke truth and had O'Reilly flustered. Can't have that, now can we? They then went on to partake in their tired spin making Donohue out to be a nut, and subtly suggesting O'Reilly commit acts of violence against Donohue.
Once again, Dayside was completely unfair and unbalanced, letting the audience believe O'Reilly had "won", only showing the clip that best suited their agenda, and labeling another liberal as nuts.
This is news?
