Fox's Neil Cavuto: a "Business News" Anchor or a Greedy Profiteer?
Reported by Melanie - September 15, 2005
Yesterday Neil Cavuto announced that he has a new book coming out October 1, called Your Money or Your Life. Cavuto showed a picture of the cover (check it out, Cavuto's holding a gun) and a full-screen graphic with the dates and locations of stops he'll make on his book tour.
Today (September 15, 2005), in the mail segment of his program, Cavuto read three letters about the book, he talked the book up a bit, and he said people can go to mycavuto.com to order a copy.
Comment: What Cavuto hasn't yet mentioned - and probably never will - is that his book is being published by HarperCollins/ReganBooks, which is owned by the parent company of Fox News, News Corp. If history is any guide, Cavuto will push this book for months and months; he's been marketing his last book (also published by ReganBooks), More than Money: True Stories of People who Learned Life's Ultimate Lesson, for 11 months now. Am I the only one who thinks it's unethical for a news anchor to have a book published by his employer and then, (1) fail to disclose the relationship, and (2) use his anchor desk megaphone to sell it?
