Fox Airs Excellent Interview with General Honore

Reported by Janie - September 8, 2005

Yesterday (9/7) Dayside was once again pre-empted by constant coverage of Hurricane Katrina, this time hosted by Uma Pemmarju.

During the hour, Pemmarju turned a portion of the segment over to Rick Leventhal. He was in Waveland, MS surveying the disaster area, and eventually cut to an interview he conducted with General Honore, the three star General that has been charged with deploying 1,000 National Guard troops in New Orleans.

The clip played of Honore's statements were as follows: "There are snipers in Baghdad, but if two guys get into an argument over the last 8 – 10 days since this all started, and a shot was fired, automatically it was a sniper. I mean, what the hell is that all about? I mean, all of the sudden someone is shooting a weapon, it's a sniper. How do you know it was a sniper? Huh? Was there some indication you had snipers? I never wore any body armor. There's been some people that might have seen people going in to get food, what do you expect them to do? If they're in a flooded area, there's foods available, what would we expect them to do?"

Comment: This was such a scathing interpretation of how Fox, and the remainder of the media have been covering the aftermath of Katrina. It was an excellent clip, that deserved the air-time it received on Fox, to combat against much of the coverage to date.
