In a Wave of Misery, Fox Still Finds Time to Highlight the President

Reported by Donna - August 31, 2005

On Studio B with Shepard Smith today, I will have to give credit to Shepard Smith for covering the story in New Orleans, in one of the toughest neighborhoods in order to get his story out. Smith focused on people who were coming out of the projects onto a highway ramp, Exit 235A on Highway 10. The situation there is desperate.

No food, water, shelter, shade, medical help, bathroom facilities for people who have been out on this ramp for 2 days straight in high 90's weather with killer humidity. Smith kept asking people if they knew where to go. They didn't. Smith asked officials - why is there no one telling people where to go and he was told they are to stand still, buses were on the way. Hopefully they will be there soon.

However, Fox still found time out to tell us that the president took a tour of the devastated Gulf Coast (from Air Force One) and went to the White House for a report from Wendall Goler.

Goler said that the president was back in the White House for the first time in a month. He then said that one official said that the president has called for 'all hands on deck.'

Comments: I'm trying to separate in my mind the two extremes. Smith throwing down water and ice to a couple with a 3 year old baby overcome from the heat, to a president using Navy terms to say he's back on the job.

Is it ironic? We report, you decide.
