Bill O'Reilly -- Scratch a Bully, Find a Chicken

Reported by Judy - August 29, 2005

For all his bluster and bullying, it turns out that Bill O'Reilly is nothing but a chicken. How else to explain his refusal to debate Outfoxed producer Robert Greenwald?

Greenwald has been offering to debate O'Reilly ever since the film exposing O'Reilly as bully and Fox News as a shill for the Bush Administration came out more than a year ago. Greenwald issued another challenge after O'Reilly lumped Greenwald in with Islamic suicide bombers (oops, that should be "homicide bombers" on Fox) and believers in the Third Reich. See Marie Therese's post on O'Reilly's Talking Points Memo.

Greenwald, who is Jewish, took offense. "O'Reilly has simply lost his mind," Greenwald told a columnist for The Daily News.
"I demand that O'Reilly apologize."

Greenwald also asked O'Reilly for "a real debate on the issues, not his silly name-calling."

But O'Reilly, who frequently chides people who refuse to come on his show, wants no part of a face-off with Greenwald.

A representative of Fox News told the newspaper: "Why would we book a has-been like Robert Greenwald on cable's highest-rated program? We wish him well on his road to extinction." O'Reilly, of course, loves to hype his ratings, about which he has been known to exaggerate, as mediabistro noted recently.

By refusing, Greenwald said, O'Reilly "continues to hide behind his microphone."

I know Robert Greenwald. Robert Greenwald is a friend of mine. Robert Greenwald would kick O'Reilly's butt, then wipe the floor with it.
