Fox Diminishes Cindy Sheehan's Return To Crawford
Reported by Deborah - August 25, 2005
On Fox & Friends this morning, 8/25/05, Greg Kelly, reported that Cindy Sheehan and George W. Bush returned to Crawford yesterday at almost the same time. Kelly then described the President's triumphant trip to Idaho making him look like a returning hero followed by a brief and very unflattering look at Sheehan's return.
The President and First Lady were shown walking by a large cheering crowd in Idaho. Kelly reported that Bush spoke about "staying the course" and withdrawl from Iraq would "embolden the terrorists". Kelly added that a mother with 5 sons currently serving in the military was on hand to tell the crowd that her sons would be proud to die for their country.
Then the scene flipped to a shot of Sheehan hugging a friend at the airport while Kelly reported that she returned to Crawford to some cheers and a smattering of boos adding that the people of Crawford were unhappy about her presence. He quickly added that the pro Iraq War group, You Don't Speak For Us,Cindy was also in Crawford to counter Cindy Sheehans message.
Comment: Fox managed to reduce Cindy Sheehan to a nuisance to Crawford residents. Although viewers got an image of a popular and resolute Bush, Camp Casey and the growth of the movement started by Sheehan was totally ignored. The reality of the poll numbers showing that Americans do not support the Iraq War or this President was traded for a fantasy world where mothers offer their sons to be killed for a noble cause and everyone admires their brave and unflinching leader.
